2001 - David Foster
Tasmanian woodchopper David Foster became synonymous with the Royal Easter Show, having chopped there from 1977 until 2019. In 1991 he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his services to woodchopping and in 1999 became the only axeman to have won 100 Sydney Show Championships. David represented Australia in Woodchop forty times and captained the Australian team twenty-eight times. He won the Australian Axeman of the year a record nine times in a row and has won over 180 world titles. In 2020 he was inducted into the Sports Australia Hall of Fame.
