McCarthy Perpetual Shield

Silvered and gilded mounts on a rosewood-finished shield shaped plaque, with a medallion to the centre, engraved with a vigneron amidst his cellar.

Awarded For: Awarded for Best Sauvignon Blanc.

Donated By: Donated by J McCarthy and Co Pty Ltd and first presented in 1951. JJ McCarthy and Co Pty Ltd, established in 1880 were Sydney based case, cask and bottle merchants who throughout their history had been enthusiastic supporters of wine shows across NSW. Until 2011 this trophy was a quasi-perpetual trophy and won outright every 10 years. From 2011 the RAS established it as a Perpetual Trophy and it is no longer won outright. Until 2014 this trophy was awarded to the Most Successful Exhibitor in the Wines and Brandy Section. From 2014 to 2015 it was awarded for Best Organic/Bio-Dynamic Wine.

David Clarke Memorial Perpetual Trophy

Crystal bowl, Prestige Seahorse by Waterford Wedgwood, on a varnished wooden plinth.

Awarded For: Awarded for best Semillon.

Donated By: Donated by Jane Clarke, Timothy Clarke, Angus Clarke and Maxine Cooley and first presented in 2012. David Stuart Clarke AO, was dedicated to the Wine Section of the RAS. He was an RAS Councillor from 1986, a Board Member from 1999-2002 and Chairman of the Wine Committee from 1990-2010. He committed generously to the Sydney Royal Wine Show each year, ensuring that all those involved felt part of the Show. Under his stewardship the Show became a pre-eminent part of the Australian wine circuit. He also supported education for younger generations in wine through the Len Evans Tutorial.

Bert Bear Memorial Perpetual Trophy

Silver-plated wine cooler of campana form, affixed to a circular salver base all raised on a circular oak plinth base.

Awarded For: Awarded for best Other White Varietal.

Donated By: Donated by the First Thursday Luncheon Club of which Mr Bear was an original member and first presented in 1963. The club was comprised of a number of people interested in the wine industry including winemakers and growers. They met for lunch on the first Thursday of each month to discuss wines and each one brought along a "masked" bottle, which was sampled and discussed. Mr Bear was Managing Director of Lindemans from 1956 to 1962. Until 2014 this trophy was awarded for Premium Previous Vintage White Wine.

Heather Gibson Perpetual Trophy

Heather Gibson Perpetual Trophy

Small, silver cup by Georg Jensen, mounted on a varnished wooden plinth. Heather Gibson first visited the Royal Easter Show as a young girl in the 1930s, and as a vet student she worked as a groom in the Cattle Section in the 1940s. When her husband, Andrew Gibson, joined the RAS Council in 1984, Heather began her long association with Arts and Crafts. She worked as a Steward for the Arts and Crafts Section, even after Andrew's death, and was always fascinated to learn about various crafts from the Judges. Heather valued the friendships she made with other Stewards and the RAS staff, and always helped pack cakes and scones that had not won for donation to charities.

Awarded For: Awarded to the Most Successful Exhibitor in Non-Perishable Cooking.

Donated By: Donated by the past employees of Egelabra Merino Stud in memory of Mr Hugh Lydiard and first presented in 2003. Hugh Lydiard provided many years of service as Judge and Steward at the Royal Easter Show and encouraged young people within the industry.

Bryan (BJ) D'Este Memorial Perpetual Trophy

Twin handled lidded silver cup that features hand chased images of a Cuckoo Pekin Bantam, Pekin Drake and Pile Old English Game Bantam which represent the three disciplines Bryan D'Este was involved in. The cup is mounted on a circular timber base fitted with engraving plates.

Awarded For: Awarded for Overall Champion Trio or Pair.

Donated By: Donated by John and Julie D'Este and first presented in 2016. Bryan "BJ" D'Este was tragically killed in a car accident in 2014 at the young age of 20. He was actively involved in the breeding and showing of poultry, acting as Chief Steward for the New England Exhibition Poultry Association and holding a position as Vice President at the Inverell Show. Prior to his death, Bryan was on his way to becoming a provisional Judge in Waterfowl, Hard Feather & Soft Feather as well as a Steward at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. His ambition was to become a successful and respected judge.

David Asimus Memorial Perpetual Trophy

Cold cast bronze figure of a showjumper and horse, sculpted by Mary Pinsent. The bronze is mounted on a circular timber base fitted with name plate and engraving plates.

Awarded For: Awarded for Best Performed Section 1 Jumping Horse.

Donated By: Donated by Peter Asimus and Virginia Russell-Asimus and first presented in 2016. David Asimus was a competitor at the Sydney Royal Easter Show for over 30 years. An accomplished rider and showjumper he won Champion Gentleman Rider and Rider on Flat. He won many more showjumping competitions at the Show with his name appearing on several Perpetual Trophies including the Bob Chittick Memorial Perpetual Cup, EFA Perpetual Cup and Kevin Bourke Memorial Teams Perpetual Trophy. In 1983 he represented Australia in World Cup Showjumping in Vienna, finishing 12th overall.
