Pig
The Sydney Royal Pig Show is committed to supporting the pursuit of excellence in the pig & pork industries.
At the first Agricultural Show in 1824, only a handful of pigs were entered, and prizes of ten Spanish Dollars for Best Colonial Bred Boar and Best Colonial Bred Sow went to John Pye.
Today, the competition is recognised as one of the largest and most prestigious in Australia.
All Exhibitors, whether first-time entrant or trophy winner, receive valuable feedback from the independent judges, helping to benchmark studs and breeders against peers and competitors in the industry.
A win at the Sydney Royal Pig Show elevates an exhibitor's reputation and increases the commercial value of the winning animals and breeding lines.

After the success of the 2024 Pigs & Pinot event, we are excited to announce its return alongside the Sydney Royal Stud Pig Auction at the 2025 Sydney Royal Easter Show.
This event presents an exceptional opportunity for exhibitors with closed herds to compete in the Sydney Royal Pig Show, while also providing pig breeders across the country access to Australia’s finest stud pig genetics to enhance their breeding programs.
At the Sydney Royal, we are committed to ensuring our competitions remain relevant and aligned with the evolving agricultural industry. In the Pig Section, this includes strengthening our commercial classes with the continuation of an objective measurement class.
This initiative provides valuable data to breeders, assisting them in selecting superior breeding pairs to enhance meat quality. Additionally, we encourage exhibitors to showcase their pork and bacon in the Sydney Royal Fine Food Competitions. A prime example of success in this space is Gumshire Pork, whose pigs have earned multiple championship ribbons in the show ring. They have also been recognised for a second consecutive year as finalists for the President’s Medal—a prestigious accolade and the only competition of its kind in Australia. Gumshire Pork stands among eight finalists selected from over 5,000 entries across the Sydney Royal Wine, Beer & Cider, Cheese & Dairy Produce, and Fine Food Shows.
To create a dynamic and engaging atmosphere, we are hosting a special networking function alongside the auction, providing a unique space for professionals across the pig, pork, and broader agricultural industries to connect.
Whether you are a hobbyist, a commercial piggery operator, a pork industry professional, or simply looking to enjoy the event, there will be something for everyone. Even if you do not plan to purchase a pig, we encourage you to attend—the auction will kick off with a selection of items set to get everyone excited, with proceeds from these initial items supporting the RAS Foundation.
We would love for you to join us at this exciting event and connect with like-minded individuals passionate about the journey from paddock to plate.
Please feel free to share the RSVP link with anyone who may be interested.
