RAS Foundation calls on donations to help raise vital funds for Taree, as the RAS of NSW matches donations.
In response to the devastating floods that recently impacted the Hunter and Mid North Coast regions, the RAS Foundation has launched an End-of-Financial Year (EOFY) fundraiser to support the recovery of two vital community assets, the Taree Show Society Showground and the Taree High School Agricultural Plot.
To amplify the impact of this initiative, the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS of NSW) is matching every dollar donated and recently increased its commitment from $20,000 to $40,000 due to the overwhelming generosity of donors.
RAS President John Bennett said the fundraiser was created in direct response to a request for help from the Taree Show Society.
“The impact of the flood on the Taree Showground and the Taree High School Ag plot has been devastating. Creating this fundraiser, and doubling our impact by matching the funds raised, is a small way that we can help ease some of this burden,” said John Bennett.
“The Taree Show Society and High School Agricultural program both play an integral role in their community; they host important community events and help the next generation learn about our industry. To lose those facilities would be detrimental not only to Taree but the wider agricultural community.”
Backing onto the Manning River, the Taree Show Society Showground was severely impacted by the May floods, losing much of the equipment in their office, kitchen, and caretakers' cottage while also suffering electrical damage to the building. Similarly, the Taree High School Agricultural Plot was completely wiped out - thankfully, all animals were saved.
Hosting the local agricultural show and various community events such as weekly produce markets, the Rotary Book Exchange, Men's Shed, horse events and more, the Taree Showground and Taree High Ag Plot play a significant role in supporting the Taree community and bringing people together.
“The RAS Foundation EOFY Taree Fundraiser is a way that we can stand with the Taree Show Society and Taree High School, to help share their story and raise vital funding for the difficult recovery ahead.”
The RAS and RAS Foundation are urging the community to help support the recovery of these important community facilities by making a tax-deductible donation to the RAS Foundation EOFY Taree Fundraiser before the end of June.
