Donated By: Donated by Kahlua Pastoral Co, Bowral NSW, (the late C Minter) in memory of the late Captain George Thyne Reid. First presented in 1944. Captain George T Reid was killed in action while serving his country in the Second World War. Captain Reid had fought at Tobruk and served with distinction in the Western Desert and other campaigns. He had been elected President of the Angus Society of Australia in 1941 when he succeeded Norman L Forster and although his Army duties prevented him from fulfilling his role as President he was later re-elected to complete his maximum two-year period as President. Mr Cliff Minter of Kahlua Angus Stud, the Vice President, became Acting President during Captain Reid's absence until his term of office ceased in 1943 when Mr Minter was elected as President in his own right. At a meeting of the Angus Society on 29th January 1944 Mr Minter announced the death of Captain GT Reid and referred to the valuable work performed by both Captain Reid and his father Andrew Reid as breeders of Aberdeen Angus, as citizens, and to Captain Reid's service in the Army in the interests of his country. Mr Minter instructed that with Mrs Reid's consent and subject to Council's approval Kahlua Pastoral Company would present a silver cup to be known as the GT Reid Memorial Cup to be awarded each year for the best Aberdeen-Angus Bull under the age of two years.
