Donated By: The Andrew Reid Trophy was endowed by Narrangullen Angus Stud in 1939 in memory of Mr Andrew Reid after his death on 4th April 1939. Narrangullen Stud first appeared in the Aberdeen Angus Herd Books of Australia in Volume 5 published in 1934 and Mr Reid had been President of the Angus Society from 1937 to 1939. Originally presented as a quasi-perpetual trophy by Narrangullen Angus Stud in 1961, replaced in 1970, 1974 and 1978 and re-donated as a Perpetual Trophy by Pine Creek Angus Stud P/L who won the trophy outright in 1982. The Cattle Section Committee recommended its acceptance (Nov 1985) in view of its importance to the Angus Breed and despite the original valuation of the silver plate. In 1986 Pine Creek P/L in order to perpetuate the concept of the original donors and to restore the award held in high esteem and respect by Angus members, re-donated the Andrew Reid Trophy for presentation under prior conditions with the added restriction that it could no longer be won outright. Thus the trophy still carries on to convey a part of the Angus breed's early history.
