Goat

Sydney Royal is Australia's prestigious, world-class awards program driving innovation and award-quality excellence.

The Sydney Royal Goat Show is internationally recognised and regarded as one of the most prestigious in Australia, attracting Dairy, Angora, Boer, Miniature and Mohair Fleece Exhibits.

All Exhibitors, whether first-time entrant or trophy winner, receive valuable feedback from the independent judges, helping to benchmark studs and breeders against peers and competitors in the industry.

A win at the Sydney Royal Goat Show elevates an exhibitor's reputation and increases the commercial value of the winning animals and breeding lines.

The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW invites schools with facilities for goat care to join the 2026 Sydney Royal School Angora Wether Competition, a hands-on, school-based trial running from October 2025 to April 2026.

Each school may enter one or more teams of three Angora wethers, which students will rear and prepare for exhibition at the 2026 Sydney Royal Easter Show. To be eligible, goats must be under the school’s daily care throughout the trial. Support in sourcing Angora Goats is available upon request.

All entries will participate in four judged components:

  • Group of Three: Assessed on uniformity, fleece, body condition, conformation, and temperament.

  • Production Class: Mohair and carcass traits evaluated, with fleeces weighed and valued.

  • Project Presentation: Students deliver a short in-ring talk on their goat raising experience and industry insights.

  • Herdsman Competition: Judged on grooming, pen setup, and student engagement with the public.

This unique program supports agricultural education, builds practical skills, and fosters teamwork and pride, culminating in a showcase at the prestigious Sydney Royal Easter Show.

This Competition is proudly supported by the RAS, with prize support from the Australian Mohair Marketing Organisation (AMMO) and Mohair Australia Ltd.
