The Sydney Royal Sheep & Fleece Show at the Sydney Royal Easter Show is one of Australia’s oldest and most respected livestock competitions, with origins dating back to 1823. What began with just 42 pens of sheep has evolved into a national showcase of excellence, attracting leading breeders and exhibitors from across the country. More than 400 classes now celebrate achievement across Merino, Poll Merino, Meat and Dual-Purpose breeds, as well as fleece exhibits, with cash prizes, ribbons and perpetual trophies awarded. Merino and Poll Merino sections feature August and March Shorn classes, covering wool types from Ultrafine to Strong alongside Production classes. Meat and Dual-Purpose breeds include Australian White, Dorper, Poll Dorset, Suffolk, Texel, White Suffolk and others. Fleece categories span Merino, Crossbred, Border Leicester, Commercial and District exhibits. A Sydney Royal win remains a prestigious distinction, reflecting excellence in breeding, wool quality and industry leadership within the Australian sheep and wool sector.
