Goat

Angora goats were first imported to NSW in 1823, but it wasn’t until 1869 that they were judged in competitions. Initially, goat fleece was judged within the sheep fleece competition but by 1938, goats had their own competition category.

For the first thirty-three years, the Show judged dairy goats only, but the increase in goat breeds and the boom in goat farming has seen the reintroduction of Angora and the introduction of Boer and Mohair goats.

Following a delightful and successful inaugural competition, Miniature goats will return to the 2024 Sydney Royal Goat Show.
