It's been a long wait for the 2021 KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Show, but today the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) is celebrating the return of its iconic national wine show and honouring the recipients of eight educational scholarships.
With entries now open for the July competition, Sydney Royal Wine Committee Chair Sally Evans is calling on producers from across the country to enter the Show and help drive the continued development of Australian wine.
"It has been a difficult year for all wine competitions, and a very tough few years for producers, suffering from the impacts of long-term drought, devastating bushfires, the repercussions of the pandemic, as well as challenges with international trade," Sally Evans said.
"However, we are a resilient industry and will continue to deliver the outstanding products the Australian wine industry is renowned for, with the Sydney Royal Wine Show continuing to support producers by showcasing the best of the best from our industry.
"We have secured a stellar line-up of judges to join PJ Charteris in his final year as Chair of Judges at Sydney Royal, so I encourage all producers to enter, it’s going to be a great show."
While the KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Show continues to support the evolution of quality in Australian Wine with rigorous evaluation and benchmarking, it is through educational support that the RAS bets on the future of the industry, this year delivering over $40,000 worth of funding through its Sydney Royal Wine Professional Development Scholarships and Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarships.
"One of the KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Show’s proudest achievements is its ability to contribute to the development of world-class Australian wine professionals, utilising the sale of the excess show stock to support the next generation of winemakers, viticulturists, sommeliers and wine communicators.
After an incredible response to scholarship applications this year, the KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Show and the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Foundation (RASF) are delighted to support eight worthy recipients, including the introduction of funding for one scholar to complete the AWRI's Advanced Viticulture course.
"As we congratulate the very talented recipients of our 2021 KPMG Sydney Royal Scholarships, I can confidently report that the future of our industry is looking bright," Sally Evans said.
The Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarships and Sydney Royal Wine Assessment Scholarships are supported by the Sydney Royal Wine Committee. In 2021, The Len Evans Tutorial Foundation will join as partners to support an additional scholar to attend the Advanced Wine Assessment Course (AWAC) conducted by the Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI).
The 2021 KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Show will take place from 26 - 29 July 2021.
