Sydney Royal Cheese & Dairy Produce Show celebrates Champions from across Australia with results announced today.

Posted on : 22 February 2021

Following four-days of intense judging, the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW has today announced the results of its 2021 Sydney Royal Cheese & Dairy Produce Show, revealing Champions from almost every Australian state.

From white milk in Queensland and delicious cold brew milk in Western Australia to Tasmanian butter, Victorian blue cheese, and New South Wales' ice cream and gelato; the Australian dairy industry was well represented in the crowning of the Sydney Royal Champions today.

Sydney Royal Cheese & Dairy Produce Show Chair of Judges, Mark Livermore, said it was impressive to see such a high calibre of product from across the country represented in the Champion and Gold classes.

"The 2021 Sydney Royal Champions were outstanding, and I congratulate each producer who entered this year's competition, and who throughout some of the most difficult years faced by the dairy industry have still managed to create fantastic cheese and dairy products," Mark Livermore said.

"Australians should be proud of the cheese and dairy products being produced right here in our backyard, with this year's awards representing the diversity of products from across the country."

It was New South Wales which was crowned the home of ice cream and gelato this year with Champion categories going to Sydney's Gelateria Gondola, Pure Gelato, and Cow and the Moon, while Tasmania's Coal River Farm Ashed Brie, Bega's Strong and Bitey cheddar, Victoria's Berrys Creek Gourmet Cheese Tarwin Blue, Pecora Dairy's Yarrawa and Meredith Dairy's Dill Goat Cheese Chevre adorned the iconic Australian Cheeseboard Perpetual trophy.

Husband and wife duo Pecora Dairy wowed the judges with a sheep milk cheese taking home Champion Cheese of Show for their Yarrawa, while crowd favourite Bega Cheese also took home Champion Cheddar Cheese for the fifth year in a row with its Strong and Bitey and Champion Butter went to Fonterra Dairy for the fourth consecutive year, this time for the Duck River Premium Butter.

The competition which aims to award excellence and drive the Australian dairy industry forward by benchmarking produce, is judged on a point-based system awarding Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to those that receive over a certain benchmark score. The Gold medal recipients in each class are then re-judged to identify each Champion product.

Entries are judged on qualities including 'presentation', 'flavour and aroma', and 'texture and body'.
