RAS discovers ‘Garden of Eden’ hidden in Tennyson Point
Posted on : 09 November 2020
The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) has discovered Sydney’s best residential front garden with the winner of the 2020 Sydney Spring Garden Competition announced today.
The competition, now in its second year, awards Sydney residents who have tended to fabulous front gardens which bring joy to the entire community, continuing the legacy of the late Lt. Col. Charles Christian to beautify the streets of Sydney.
The flourishing fortress is the masterpiece of local Tennyson Point resident and 2019 winner Donald Pickens, who will be awarded a $2000 gardening package courtesy of Flower Power to continue beautifying the streets of Sydney.
Sydney Spring Garden Competition winner, Donald Pickens says it is an honour to be named Sydney’s best spring garden once again.
“After winning the competition in 2019 it was a challenge I put on myself to maintain the title in 2020 and with such tough competition this year I am thrilled to have received the phone call,” Mr Pickens said.
“I enjoy being able to share the beauty of my garden with local residents who often come by to admire the garden and have a chat about it.
“My garden is a true labour of love and is a project I have worked on, and built from the ground up over six years. To come home from a tough day at work and be able to go out and tend to the roses, the ever changing annuals, and bulbs brings me great joy, so to once again be recognised by the RAS is an honour,” Mr Pickens said.
Cecily Rogers, Sydney Spring Garden Competition judge says the competition was very close this year but Donald Pickens still holds the crown.
“Once again Mr Pickens exhibited an exquisite front garden that ticked all of the boxes for our Judges. A committed horticulturalist, Donald’s devotion and love of gardening is evident in the landscaping, design qualities, vibrant colours and care he gives to every bulb.”
“As Sydney’s best spring garden two years in a row, Donald’s garden brings joy to the entire Tennyson community; he is a very deserving winner.”
All fourteen finalist will receive a family pass to the 2021 Sydney Royal Easter Show.
