Man’s best friend will again be honoured at the 2019 Sydney Royal Easter Show Canine Hero Awards and the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) is again calling for stories of brave New South Wales canines making a difference in society.
The Canine Hero Awards recognise and celebrate a “Service Dog”, an animal who has displayed an act of loyalty, bravery or has conducted a lifesaving feat in the course of its duties, also a “Companion Dog”, a canine who continues to transform lives through its selfless service to a human handler or owner.
Two canines honoured at a special ceremony at the 2018 Sydney Royal Easter Show are true reflections of these qualities;
Koda a NSW Police Service Dog found an 82-year-old tourist who had been lost for almost two days in unfamiliar surroundings and had collapsed in thick scrub and extreme temperatures in the Hills District of Sydney.
Another Koda has a different mission in life - a diabetic alert dog who has been protecting now four-year-old Mirandah Wilson since she was five months old, alerting her parents when Mirandah’s blood levels are dangerously low and already saving her life on numerous occasions.
Our canine family are often overlooked when it comes to their heroic acts, but like the two Kodas’, the RAS knows there are numerous untold stories that deserve to be heard and honoured.
Do you know a Canine Hero? If so, why not enter the 2019 Canine Hero Awards.
Two Canines’ will be honoured at the 2019 Sydney Royal Easter Show in a ceremony which precedes the naming of Sydney Royal’s “ADVANCE™ Best in Show”.
