(RASF) scholarship to fund “low budget - big ambitions” to advance the Australian Wine Industry

Posted on : 03 July 2018

The winemaking sector in Australia is full of amazing stories of people who have been able to turn their talents or bright ambition into market-leading labels, scientific breakthroughs or world-class innovations.

However sometimes that kernel of an idea needs a financial helping-hand to become a reality.

That is why the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Foundation (RASF) in partnership with the Sydney Royal Wine Show has established two scholarships directly targeting the Australian wine sector, the Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarship and the Sydney Royal Wine Assessment Scholarship.

The scholarships are designed to give back to the wine industry, developing and promoting young wine industry leaders and supporting rural economies. It aligns perfectly with the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW charter to see rural communities and economies prosper.

Entries have now opened for both of these scholarships.

The Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarship is open to applicants who are Australian citizens, under 30 years of age and taking on studies that relate to the furthering of the Australian wine industry.

These could be studies in the agricultural sciences, horticulture, viticulture or oenology through to marketing, journalism or advanced wine education courses at university, VET/TAFE or through private providers.

The successful scholarship recipient will receive $6000 if they are in full-time study or $3000 if they are studying part-time.

The successful scholar will also be offered a position as a VIP wine steward at the prestigious KPMG Royal Sydney Wine Show to be held from 30 July 2018 to 2 August 2018 at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park.

The Sydney Royal Wine Assessment Scholarship is entering just its second year and offers the successful recipient a fully-paid place at the Australian Wine Research Institute’s Advanced Wine Assessment Course to be held in Adelaide in May 2019.

The Sydney Royal Wine Assessment Scholarship is funded to the value of $6000 and is open to Australian citizens of any age.

These scholarships are funded through the sale of excess wine stock from the KPMG Royal Sydney Wine Show.

Chair of the Sydney Royal Wine Committee Sally Evans says these scholarships can be just the help-up a student needs;

“We all know that studying or developing our professional skills can carry with it financial burdens,” Sally Evans said.

“So it is really pleasing that Sydney Royal can be there to support those who have a passion for securing their future in the Australian Wine industry.

“In addition, being able to rub shoulders with some of the biggest and most respected names in the business as they judge thousands of entries at the KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Show is a money can’t buy experience, available only to our Sydney Royal Wine Scholarship recipients,” Sally Evans said.
