"The results for the 2019 RAS Sydney Royal Wine Show provide a comprehensive snap shot of the strength of winemaking across Australia and one of the most considered buying guides any wine consumer could ask for.

In this year's medal tally we see not only strength of the mainstay varieties in Shiraz, Riesling, Semillon and Chardonnay but the continued emergence of non-traditional red and white varieties such as Tempranillo, Grenache, Fiano and Arneis.

Adding to this we have a impressive showing from Cabernet Sauvignon and associated blends underlining the return of confidence our winemakers have in this variety to produce top quality wines.

Our Winemakers and Vignerons have also shown their commitment to quality and provenance with a significant number of Single Vineyard wines entered into the show with commensurate results.

While the wine industry faces headwinds in both domestic and export markets for geo-political reasons, consumers globally can take an extremely positive view based purely on quality and this is reflected in the results from this year's show.

Statistical Snap Shot

  • 2200 Entries
  • 4% Gold medals, 11% Silver medals, 30%  Bronze medals
  • 32% of all entries were of Single Vineyard Origin
  • 25% of all Exhibitors were Small Producers producing less that 7500 Dozen total production

There was an even spread of Gold medals across the 4 main states of NSW, VIC, SA and WA at 4% with TAS achieving a 6% Gold Medal count."
