Take a drive for a drink

Posted on : 13 August 2019

Hunter Valley, Barossa Valley, Margaret River and Yarra Valley - we know they are the big four but where else can you discover a fine wine or a trendy tipple?

A country road trip will reveal a few more spots to find a fine drop, including Mudgee in the central west of NSW, the Adelaide Hills, Victoria's Mornington Peninsula and across Tasmania.

Climate and agricultural practice could be shaping the emerging regions, and influencing wine style, according to KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Show Chair of Judges PJ Charteris. Likewise, international judge Rod Smith MW believes diversity is the key and regional variations are sitting comfortably alongside traditional classics.

Look beyond the Clare Valley for riesling, venture outside of the Hunter Valley for your chardonnay, and try a Pinot Noir from somewhere other than Tasmania. The KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Show results will reveal a road trip worthy range of vineyards to visit across many regions of Australia.
