Sheep & Wool Competitions on Show for 12 Days

Posted on : 23 August 2018

The RAS of NSW Sheep & Wool Committee is pleased to announce that the 2020 Sydney Royal Sheep & Wool Competitions will be held over the entire 12 days of the Show and not 6 days as has been at past Shows.

In making this decision the Committee has addressed ongoing concerns expressed by our exhibitors about arrangements and facilities at the Show and the prospect of additional entries being received from a number of schools who are keen to exhibit teams of sheep at the Show.

Exhibitors were surveyed before the 2018 Show and the information gathered greatly assisted the Committee with its plans for the future.

The 2020 timetable of events (link below) will ensure that all of the Sheep & Fleece Competitions will be able to be viewed by our show patrons as there will be no need for pre-Show judging or judging at ‘closed’ venues.

The Committee will also host two dedicated social functions aimed specifically at the Merino and Meat & Dual Purpose Sheep Industries.

In brief these changes will:

  • Respond to the information gathered by the 2018 Sydney Royal Sheep Exhibitors Survey
  • Address Bump in and Out concerns
  • Provide an opportunity to offer some on-site accommodation to Exhibitors over Easter.
  • Eliminate pre-Show judging
  • Eliminate judging prior to the Show opening at 9.30am
  • Provide the opportunity to target industry representatives by conducting two (2) separate social functions for the Merino Section and the M&DP Section,
  • Continue to provide a high level of animal welfare
  • Ensure we continue to comply with our WH & Safety obligations
  • Provide Exhibitors with a more comfortable experience
  • Provide all Show Patrons with the opportunity to view all of the Sheep & Fleece Competitions,
  • Showcase sheep over the Easter Long Weekend.
