A champion in every shell

Described as "one of the supreme delights nature has bestowed on man", oysters have this year been named the Champion Aquaculture Product in the 2021 Sydney Royal Aquaculture Competition. Rewarding the hard work and dedication Tathra Oysters devote to growing, they have picked up their sixteenth Champion Award for their Sydney Rock Oysters and taken the champion title overall from a pool including prawns, fresh fish, smoked/cured fish, and other farmed aquaculture products.
Nelson Lake Bistro Cylinder is a sweet, creamy and delicious oyster from Tathra Oysters, grown in the pristine waters of Nelson Lake in the Mimosa Rocks National Park on the far south coast of NSW. Setting a high benchmark for other growers, Tathra Oysters are leading a pack of seafood award-winners which includes Gold Coast Marine Aquaculture - Champion Prawn (Gold Coast Tiger Prawns), Clean Seas Seafood - Champion Fresh Fish (Spencer Gulf Kingfish), Brilliant Food - Champion Smoked/Cured Product (Smoked Ocean Trout), and Yumbah Aquaculture Ltd - Champion Other Farmed Aquaculture Product (Australian Tiger Abalone Whole in Shell).
Fitting, perhaps, that one of the earliest commercial aquaculture products in Australia was the Sydney Rock Oyster in 1872... almost 150 years later Sydney Rock Oysters are still swimming ahead of the seafood pack!
