Frogs & Reptiles Competition History

Assets reference: Frog & Reptile Section history
Date: 2011
Collection: Competition histories

The Sydney Royal Frog & Reptile Show was inaugurated in 2011. Non-venomous snakes, lizards and frogs are judged, with prizes awarded in each category. Top accolades are given for Grand Champion, Runner-up to Grand Champion, the highest placed youth keeper, and People's Choice.

The competition is self-administered by Wild Australia Expo and is one of the largest of its kind in the country.

Conditions of entry stipulate that all reptiles exhibited at the Show must be brought along in a white or light-coloured cotton bag or pillowslip placed inside a ventilated and sturdy clear plastic container with a securely clipped lid.

While this is a relatively new competition at the Show, reptiles have had a traditional presence in other ways, as snakes and snake-charmers were once popular attractions at the old Sideshow Alley.
