RAS Sheep Hoof & Hook Competition

The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) supports the Sheep Hoof & Hook competition  at Illabo Show. Exhibitors enter 10 sheep per pen, have them judged live and then judged again on the hook. The results are invaluable to assess sire performance in weight for age, but also enables them to more accurately assess and apply the latest husbandry and feeding practices on their sheep  back at the farm.

By preparing sheep for a market date exhibitors understand the concept of preparation for a show/sale window and how their management processes will assist or prevent the stock being market ready.

Producers and Exhibitors have the opportunity to examine the fleece and carcase traits of all the animals of the same and different sheep breeds at the show. Comparing the sheep they have raised and shown and with others in the market also helps them make decisions about sire selection in the future.

The 2019 competition will be on 12 October 2019 at Illabo Showground. Results for 2018 can be seen in the 2018 Results Catalogue.
