The RAS President's Medal is the only competition of its kind in Australia, judging products alongside each other on a multifaceted basis. Established in 2006 to reward producers developing products using sustainable practices and raising consumer awareness, the RAS President's Medal honours the very best of the best in agricultural production and comes with the highest distinction.

The six finalists are all Champion products from the Sydney Royal Wine, Dairy and Fine Food Shows and were selcted by the Chairs of those RAS Committees: Wine (David Clarke AO), Dairy (Gerry Andersen) and Fine Food (Lyndey Milan).

Judging was conducted by an elite panel of four experts: Simon Marnie (702 ABC Sydney), Scott Davenport (Chief Economist, NSW Department of Primary Industries), Peter Sillcock (Business Manager, Local Buying, Woolworths Limited) and Peter Gilmore (Executive Chef, Quay Restaurant). Each finalist was visited by the judges to review operations, observe production and gather economic and local information. There are three criteria:

Triple Bottom Line: identifies the producer's financial, social and environmental performance;

Human factor: takes into consideration passion, commitment and enthusiasm

Market acceptance: fundamental for long-term commercial success covers point of sale appeal

Lindsay McCall from Paringa Estate was presented with a cheque for $10,000 and a silver heritage medal by the RAS President, Glenn Dudley.

The RAS President's Medal is recognition of outstanding contribution to Australian agriculture, not only for the final product but also for the development processes, production practices, and passion of all the producers. The award is a showcase of the standard of the Australian Primary Industries and an opportunity to promote sustainable agriculture practices throughout the country.

The award is proudly supported and sponsored by Woolworths Supermarkets and the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
