This year's Sydney Royal Fine Food Show Aquaculture competition held by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS of NSW) has seen the highest quality entry of oysters ever presented to the judging panel.

Two days of Aquaculture judging at "The Stables" at the Sydney Showground has seen Sydney Rock Oysters awarded a staggering 12 gold medals from the 39 entries presented.

Chair of Judges John Susman says the quality of the Sydney Rock Oysters presented in the past week was of the highest standard in the category's 18 year history at Sydney Royal.

"It is the season for Sydney Rock and what was presented to us this year was truly outstanding in quality and the number of gold medals handed out reflects that," Mr Susman said.

"It was truly a pleasure to see and shows the industry is in good shape," he said.

Doyles Oysters from Batemans Bay, NSW was awarded the Champion Sydney Rock Oyster and claimed the best in show award - the Champion Aquaculture Product Perpetual Trophy donated by Noel Herbst OAM.

Federal Assistant Minister for Agriculture, the Hon Senator Anne Ruston was on hand to view the judging and was impressed with what she saw.

"No wonder the world is talking about Australian Aquaculture - The proof is in the eating," Senator Ruston said.

"Australian Aquaculture industry is a critical element in our nation's world class Agriculture sector," she said.

Pacific Reef Fisheries from Ayr, Qld took out the Champion Prawn Exhibit Perpetual Trophy donated by Graham J Crouch.

This native Australian fish continues as one of the fastest growing aquaculture sectors in Australia.
