When His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d) took office as the 38th Governor of New South Wales he instituted a policy that all produce served at official Government House functions had to have been grown or produced in NSW. Fortunately for His Excellency, NSW is overflowing with award-worthy produce.

Seafood from NSW is often a feature at functions and is extremely popular with many of the foreign guests welcomed at Government House. Craig Kitchen, Manager Household at Government House, believes our local seafood is the best in the world, with oysters and prawns particularly requested.

“We always serve Yamba prawns from the Clarence River, they are a fantastic product so we like to show them off,” Kitchen says,

“Prawns are such an Australian thing.”

The kitchen at Government House could be keeping a very close eye on the RAS website over the next week or two, waiting to see the 2018 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show Aquaculture award-winners for inclusion on upcoming function menus.
