AWARDS!
Winner - 2007 Tourism NSW Award for Major Festivals and Events
After success in 2006, The Sydney Royal Easter Show has again taken home the 2007 NSW Tourism Award for Major Festivals and Events.
Attracting close to one million patrons each year, the Sydney Royal Easter Show has become one of Australia’s most treasured events, since its inception in 1823.
"We are thrilled to win such a prestigious award for the second year running," said Mr Michael Collins, General Manager, Sydney Royal Easter Show. "This award reinforces the status of the Show as a truly world-class event. Not only does the Show unite Sydneysiders with country folk, but it also attracts a significant number of interstate guests, and in 2007 welcomed 15,000 international visitors."
Tourism is a major focus for the Show. "The RAS has worked closely with NSW Tourism offices in Hong Kong and New Zealand, looking for new ways to share the Show with international visitors", said Mr Collins. "We have also been working hard on other campaigns in the emerging markets of China and Korea, along with new launches in Malaysia and Singapore this year."
The Show secured the win over the Medibank International Sydney Tennis Tournament and the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, to retain the title as the state’s leading Major Festival and Event.
The Show has been recognised on several other occasions by NSW Tourism, winning the NSW Awards of the Decade in Tourism Excellence in 1999, and the NSW Major Festivals & Special Events category in 1994.
Winner - 2007 IAFE Communications Award
For the first year ever, the Sydney Royal Easter Show website has been awarded the 2007 Communications Award by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE). The IAFE Convention was held from November 26 – 29 at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.
The IAFE is an international association which promotes and encourages the development of fairs and shows worldwide. The convention recognises volunteers, advertising campaigns, agricultural exhibitions as well as interactive technology.
The Show’s 2007 site was awarded most “Outstanding Web Site” and the award was proudly accepted by Michael Collins, General Manager Sydney Royal Easter Show, who was present in Vegas at the IAFE Convention.
Shortly before this, the Sydney Royal Easter Show website collected another accolade from the Australian Web Designers Network. The Show website was presented with the 2007 “Platinum Web Design Award” which recognises factors such as graphics, layout and originality.
The international award came as a surprise to the RAS as a formal submission was not required, but winners were picked upon recommendation and browsing.
Special thanks and congratulations go to web designer James Y Design in conjunction with MRM Worldwide, and to the Communications team Kate Gray & Rebecca O’Neill, who are all thrilled by the wins.
